JC Cosmo Build-Up
June 1998
New Suspension
Well, where do
I start, It was 3 weeks before the Sydney Auto Salon for 1998 and I had a lot of work to
do! I spent a few months prior searching for someone who could compentantly perform the
task at hand and finally after countless calls to suspension shops around Sydney and
Melbourne, I found just the place. SYDNEY SHOCK ABSORBERS and HEASMAN STEERING.

I contacted Guy from SYDNEY
SHOCK ABSORBERS and discussed my requirements. Having installed Bilstein shocks in my HB
Cosmo I didn't want to settle for anything less. These Guy's work closely with Autolign
Suspension in Auckland, New Zealand where I had my HB Cosmo work carried out.
HEASMAN STEERING were to perform the actual work of fitting the new custom Bilstein's and
eibach springs and Mark from Barts Guards was called in to perform the necessary guard
modifications.
|
Mark spent many hours preparing
the way for the big 20" wheels to fit under those guards!. Not only were the guards
lipped but they were also flared.
|
Paul from HEASMAN STEERING
performed all the suspension fitting. You can see the old shocks in the bin.
|
You can see the fully adjustable
Bilstein's and eibach springs. Note the unique twin shock system in the rear.
|
With the new suspension now
fitted, it is time to get the height adjustment right.
|
All finished!, Adjusted at a height where I
can still turn the wheels, the JC still looks very low. The good thing is that because of
the wheels being so big the ground height is still large enough so that it can be driven
normally. In fact the clearance is exactly the same as the factory. All up it came down
3.5 inches and now handles like a race car.
Special thanks go to Guy from SYDNEY SHOCK ABSORBERS, Paul from HEASMAN STEERING and Mark
from BARTS GUARDS. |
Ah yes, A win at SAS98 for
"Best Rims" made it all worth while. |
